‘Meet the Farmers’ Episode 5. Luke Hasell and Herons Green Farm

Luke HaseLuke Hasell farms beef cattle in the Chew Valley of North Somerset. I spoke to him in the farmhouse at Herons Green Farm about how he got into farming, about CSAs, regulation, pasture fed beef, conservation and much more. Luke wasn’t always a farmer and originally trained as an engineer, working for Kier Group as a project manager, but he returned to the family farm, under rather tragic circumstances, about fifteen years ago. He now manages in excess of 500 acres and manages The Story Group Ltd, which sells organic produce direct to the public. In 2008 he began the concept of The Community Farm, which is now a thriving CSA, serving customers and volunteers in Bristol, Bath, Frome and the Chew Valley.

  1. Fascinating as ever, Ben, Thanks. I’m certainly behind the organic movement and would like to see it develop further, as part of a package of options to farmers and consumers. One question, though, what are those CSAs you and Luke referred to.

    Best Wishes
