I know it’s Christmas and (assuming you celebrate Christmas) you’re probably, quite rightly, spending your time having a great time with family and friends, giving and receiving gifts and generally being merry. However, please give a thought to the amount of plastic you are generating at the same time. Since Blue Planet 2 I have become even more conscious of the amount of plastic I consume in everyday life. It’s difficult not to. However, a lot of that plastic will inevitably end up in the ocean. If you take a walk on a beach, any beach, you will see this first hand. It’s depressing, perhaps an especially depressing Christmas message, but the good thing is that we can do something about it. No matter how little you pick up, it’s a benefit. If lots of us collect it then our impact will be even greater.
I’m calling this Christmas for you to get involved in the #2minutebeachclean, a simple concept that we can all do and will make a difference.
Do you have 2 minutes? Of course you do.
This Christmas, or the next time you go to the beach for a walk, please take part in the 2 minute beach clean. Plastic is a massive problem for our marine environment and the situation is only going to get better if we all play our part and get involved in removing it. All you have to do is pick up plastic and remove it from the beach. Simple but effective. Of course if you can spend more than 2 minutes brilliant, but the point is that every little bit helps. Thank you!
If you do get involved please post about it below and if you are on social media use the #2minutebeachclean.
Here’s the amount of rubbish I collected from my local beach in 2 minutes:
And after about 20 minutes:
Please do get involved – grass roots is the best way to change things for the better.
Happy Christmas!
Ben
