Upcoming Conferences of interest

I have penned below a few conferences that may be of interest to those of you in the UK interested in food, farming and rural issues:

9th September 2014 – LGA/RSN Annual Rural Conference 2014: Sustainability out of Austerity

The conference will showcase the rural perspective on some of the most significant issues being debated across local government. Speakers include Dan Rogerson MP, Parliamentary Under Secretary of State for Water, Forestry, Rural Affairs and Resource Management at Defra , Duncan Sharkey, Managing Director, Worcester City Council , Jim Dixon, Chief Executive, Peak District National Park and Rob Poole of Farm Cornwall.

8th-9th October 2014 – Soil Association Annual Conference

STEAM – Museum of the Great Western Railway, Swindon

This year’s conference is entitled ‘Transforming the way we eat, farm and care for the natural world’ and will focus on issues as diverse as pollinators, antibiotics, nutrition, livestock rearing and the 2015 British General Election.

24th-25th February 2015 – National Farmers’ Union Conference

The ICC, Birmingham

No concrete information out about this one yet but sure to be an exciting conference for farmers, especially in a general election year.

18th-21st August 2015 – European Society for Rural Sociology Congress

Aberdeen Exhibition and Conference Centre (in partnership with the James Hutton Institute)

Founded in 1957, the ESRS is the leading European association for researchers, policy makers and scientists involved in the study of rural issues including: rural governance, land use change, sustainable development, natural resource management, and food production and consumption. The congress comes together to discuss these issues in depth.
